Body of a handmade ox figurine with its rider. Its exact find location on the Acropolis remains unspecified. Preserved are the lowest torso and legs of the man, whereas parts of the animal’s legs, its tail and head are missing. The ox body and the rider’s waist are decorated with thick black lines. The same colour has been used for the eyes and the animal’s snout.
Ox figurines of this type are frequently retrieved at sanctuaries and are considered to symbolise fertility and agricultural life. On the Acropolis they were most possibly dedications made by individuals to the Mycenean fertility goddess, perhaps Athena.
